Ancient City of Selinus

Ancient city of Selinus is located on a steep hill on its slope which is in Koru neighbourhood of Gazipaşa district of Antalyastate at the place where the bourne Selinti or Musa is flowing into the sea. It is one of the most important ancient cities in Antalya region, in Turkey. Being one of the most important cities of the Cylician highland region, the history of Selinus extends over the 6th century B.C. Asyrian sources tell us that the name of the city was mentioned as “Sallune” and was connected with Cyprus by seaway. After the fall of the Asyrians, Selinus was ruled for a while by one of the kings which were named as Syennesis in this region. The city witnessed the rivaling between the Seleukids (Syria) and Ptolemes (Egypt) and was reestablished by Antiochus IV in the 2nd century B.C.
