Another overnight bus got us into Trabzon in the wee hours. So early that it was still dark. We met a couple of local girls that we caught a taxi with into town and to our hotel. The guy there was nice enough to give us a room to stay in until ours was ready in the afternoon. That was really useful because we got hardly any sleep on the bus as per usual.

We thought Trabzon might have had a few beaches since it’s on the Black Sea coast but no luck. In fact the coastline is probably the least attractive part of the whole city. It’s a big city, a little bit like most big cities, it’s loud and an adventure crossing the roads.

Trabzon has it’s own Hagia Sofia. It’s much smaller but it’s in a cooler location than the Istanbul namesake, right on the coast and…
